2018 Half Day Summer Camps

Mad Science NASA Camp: Academy of Future Space Explorers     Ages 5-12
Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena in our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Kids will get a firsthand experience of the challenges of living in space as they try assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. For added fun, we’ll learn about the various technologies that make space exploration possible while bouncing lasers around the room! Kids will love to build their own Mad Science rocket, and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch.  Campers will have lots of projects to make and many cool NASA take homes, including a gravity assisted launcher, a Shuttle Copter, and more!   Mad Science is the ONLY organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for summer camps and school programs.

Brixology Camp     Ages 7-12
Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO® bricks. We’ll learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. We’ll explore mechanical engineering as we build boats and vehicles. That's not all - from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills. Let the tinkering begin!  Campers receive daily custom Mad Science brick take homes.

Crazy Chemworks Camp     Ages 5-12
Shake up a flask of fun in the lab and become a junior chemist! Learn to recognize chemical reactions and mix up a few reactive ingredients for some sensational results. Check out the colors of chemistry with the power of pH paper and create a stopper-popping reaction. Probe the properties of light and discover some unusual applications of glow-in-the-dark technology. Campers have a blast as they make some crazy concoctions. Take home projects include a reaction tube kit, atomic coins, thermocolor cup, slippery slime, Professor Beakerdude and more!

Eureka – The Inventor’s Camp     Ages 5-12
Inspire the inventor and scientist in you! Campers will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and the most important of all----their mind! With a little bit of ingenuity children will create catapults and forts, and even construct their own working Light Sabers to take home!! While Thomas Edison said "invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration", this camp is 100% FUN!

Mission: CODE      Ages 8-14
Mission: Code is a unique summer camp experience that allows kids to learn essential coding skills while also engaging in active games and hands-on learning.  Kids will develop computational thinking and problem solving skills in an online game environment where you give a robot a set of instructions to follow in order to solve the level. Each coding session provides kids with a fundamental skill set including algorithms, functions, relative directions and sequences. The combination of online activities paired with engaging offline activities like scavenger hunts, code-cracking mysteries and team robotics challenges that keep kids active and reinforce coding skills is a winning formula for fun in the summer!

Into The Garden Preschool Camp     Ages 3-5
This offers kids an exciting introduction to basic environmental science. Each day is devoted to different aspects of the garden, allowing the kids to progressively enrich their understanding of how living things grow and how they interact with the environment around them. During each session, Jr. Scientists will perform hands-on experiments, play themed games, and enjoy a story related to the daily themes.

Program Details--
Ø  Classes meet Monday-Friday for 3 1/2 hours each day.
Ø  Classes are filled with fun hands-on experiments and cool take home items!
Ø  Children should bring their own snack to camp each day (no peanut products please)

We also offer 1 day, 4 hour “Mini” Afternoon Camps -

Roaring Racecars and Machine Mania

Get ready for some super simple machines! Discover the power behind levers as you launch items using your very own Catapult and see if you have the aim to hit the bullseye. Race against the clock as you experiment with lifting and moving objects in our Micro Pincher relay. Investigate wheels and axels as you build your very own Drag Racer Racecar and participate in our Mad Science Drag Racer Derby to see if your car has what it takes to win the race!

Mad Science Robot Invasion

Explore the basic and complex technology used to design and build robots. Discover how machines and robots work and how they make our lives easier. Learn about simple circuits, motor principles, and make your own robot hand to take home.  Jr. Scientists will love playing with the many robots we bring along!

Science Mysteries and Magic

Kids will become an Engineer, Chemist—and even a Magician! Children will investigate physics fundamentals and use their scientific minds to analyze simple magic tricks. Jr. Scientists will be shocked by what they learn about electricity and, blown away by their experiments with air pressure!

Diggin’ up Dinos Camp
Investigate geology and paleontology as we spend time learning about dinosaurs.

See how these ancient beasts lived, played and hunted.  Cast replicas of fossils with us that you will get to keep and assemble skeletons of these extinct behemoths!

Bubbles... Smoke... Explosions!
Mad Science invites you to have fun with chemistry in this exciting summer camp. Build a real fire extinguisher and watch a film canister explode! Learn about our solar system and make a comet using everyday items. Have a 'shocking' good time with a Van de Graaff generator and experience lighting first-hand!
